Privacy Policy

This is an English translation of the Japanese プライバシーポリシー, provided for reference. If the two versions differ, the Japanese version prevails.

1. Introduction

Utadana (the “App”) is an application developed and provided independently by Takuya Okada (the “Developer”).

This Policy explains which information the App stores on your device and which information is sent outside your device when you use the App. It applies to all features of the App.

2. Our Approach

The App stores your recordings and the information that accompanies them (listed in Section 3) only on your device.

The Developer never receives this information. The only information the Developer receives from you is:

  • Feature usage and error information (Section 6). You can stop sending it at any time in the App’s Settings
  • The information you provide when you contact us (Section 7)

Your recordings leave your device only when you choose to share them (Section 12). In that case, they go to the recipient you choose, not to the Developer.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following information in its own storage area on your device:

  • Audio files of your recordings
  • Cover art for songs
  • Song titles and artist names
  • Tags, notes, recording dates and times, recording lengths, and data used to display waveforms

All of this information stays on your device and is never sent to the Developer.

4. Information Sent Outside Your Device

The App sends information outside your device in the following two cases.

Sending to Apple

The App communicates with Apple’s servers when:

  • You search for song information. The search terms you enter are sent to the iTunes Search API provided by Apple
  • It displays cover art for a song. The image is downloaded from Apple’s servers
  • It looks up information about a song or artist. The song or artist ID is sent to the iTunes Search API

In each case, your IP address also reaches Apple’s servers as part of the internet connection.

This information goes to Apple, not to a server run by the Developer. The Developer neither receives nor stores your search terms.

For how Apple handles information, please see Apple’s Privacy Policy. https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

Sending to the Developer

The App sends feature usage and error information to the Developer’s server. When it is sent, what is sent, and how it is handled are described in Section 6.

Information That Is Not Sent

Your recordings, notes, and tags are never sent as part of these communications. Your recordings go to a recipient only when you choose to share them (Section 12). Your notes and tags never leave your device.

5. Use of the Microphone

The App uses the microphone only when you start recording on the recording screen. It never turns on the microphone at any other time.

Using the microphone requires your permission on the device. If you do not grant it, all features other than recording remain available as usual.

6. Feature Usage and Error Information, Third Parties, and Advertising

What the App Does Not Do

  • Provide your information to third parties, or share it with third parties for joint use
  • Show advertisements, or use information for advertising
  • Track you across apps or websites owned by other companies
  • Require you to create an account, or obtain information that identifies you (except when you contact us, as described in the next section)

Feature Usage and Error Information

The App sends feature usage and error information (“Analytics Data”) to the Developer’s server. The Developer uses Analytics Data only to fix problems and to plan improvements to the App.

Whether it is sent

  • In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, it is sent only if you choose “Share.” The App asks you the first time you open it, or when you open the Home screen
  • In all other regions, it is sent by default
  • In every region, you can stop or resume sending at any time with “Share Analytics” in the App’s Settings
  • Your region is determined by the country of the App Store from which you got the App. If it cannot be determined, Analytics Data is sent only if you choose “Share”

What is sent

  • Which features you used and when (such as saving a recording, searching for a song, or playing a recording), along with related counts, durations, and the values of settings you chose
  • The types of screens you opened
  • The type of each error and where in the App’s program it occurred
  • The App’s version, the type and version of your operating system, and your language and region settings
  • An identifier the App created on your device (see below)

What is not sent

Song titles, artist names, search terms, notes, tag names, recordings, and cover art are not sent. Device identifiers (including the advertising identifier), location, and contacts are not sent either.

Identifier

Analytics Data carries a random identifier that the App creates on your device. This identifier is not linked to your device or to information from other apps, and the Developer cannot use it to identify you. When you stop sending, the identifier is discarded, and a new one is created if you resume.

Retention and deletion

  • Analytics Data is deleted once 13 months have passed since it was received. Before deleting it, the Developer creates monthly totals of counts and numbers of users and keeps only those totals. The totals contain no identifier and are not linked to you
  • When you stop sending, the Analytics Data you have already sent is also deleted from the server (except for totals already created). If the App cannot connect, it tries again the next time you open the App
  • Your IP address reaches the server as part of the internet connection, but the Developer does not store it

Storage provider

Analytics Data is stored using a service provided by Cloudflare, Inc. Cloudflare only stores it on the Developer’s behalf and does not use Analytics Data for its own purposes.

7. Information We Receive When You Contact Us

When you contact us through “Contact Us” in the App’s Settings, or through the Support page on this website, the Developer receives the following:

  • Your email address and the message you write
  • The model name of your device, the name and version of its operating system, and the version of the App

We use the device information only to investigate problems and to reply to you.

When you send a message from “Contact Us” in the App, the device information is shown pre-filled in the body of the email. You can review it before sending and delete anything you do not want to include. The App never sends this information without your action.

We delete the information you send us once one year has passed since we finished handling your inquiry. We never provide it to third parties.

8. Deleting Your Data

You can delete recordings one at a time from the App’s screens. When you delete a recording, its audio file is erased from your device.

If you use “Delete All Data” in the App’s Settings, all recordings and related information on your device are deleted, and the Analytics Data you have sent (Section 6) is also deleted from the server.

If you delete the App from your device, all recordings and related information stored on your device are deleted.

However, deleting the App does not remove the Analytics Data you have sent from the server. Because the identifier is lost along with the App, the Developer can no longer tell whose data it is, so it cannot be deleted individually. This data is deleted once the period in Section 6 has passed. If you want it deleted right away, turn off “Share Analytics” before deleting the App.

9. Device Backups

As standard iOS behavior, the area where the App stores your recordings is included in iCloud Backup.

If you have iCloud Backup turned on, your recordings are saved to Apple’s servers as part of your device backup. This lets you keep your recordings when you switch devices. The Developer cannot access the contents of these backups.

You can turn off backups in your device’s Settings app.

10. Use by Minors

If you are a minor, please use the App with the consent of a parent or guardian.

11. In-App Purchases

The App offers in-app purchases that let you support its development. Purchases are optional, and you can use every feature of the App without making one.

Payments are processed by Apple. The Developer does not receive your name, address, phone number, or credit card information. Apple gives the Developer only totals of which items were purchased and how many, without any information about who made the purchases.

To change the wording of its thank-you message, the App stores on your device how many times you have purchased and the date of your most recent purchase. This information stays on your device and is never sent to the Developer.

For how Apple handles information, please see Apple’s Privacy Policy. https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

12. Sharing Recordings

The App can pass your recordings to other apps.

This works only when you select a recording and choose to share it. The App never sends recordings without your action.

Sharing happens through your device’s standard share sheet and does not go through any server run by the Developer. The Developer does not know which recordings you share or with whom.

Once shared, a recording is handled according to the terms of the app or service that receives it. Please check where you are sending a recording before you share it.

13. Changes to This Policy

If we change this Policy, we will update this page and the date at the bottom. For significant changes, we will also announce them in the App’s release notes.

14. Contact

For questions about this Policy or the App, please use “Contact Us” in the App’s Settings, or see the Support page on this website. We accept inquiries in English or Japanese.

15. Language

This Policy is written in Japanese, and the Japanese version is the official version. This English version is a translation provided for reference. If the English and Japanese versions differ, the Japanese version prevails.

This Policy was established on September 22, 2026.
